Mounjaro
What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide from the manufacturer Eli Lilly, given as a weekly injection.
- Active substance: tirzepatide
- Action: dual — GLP-1 and GIP
- Administration: once a week, subcutaneously
- Prescription only: yes
How does Mounjaro work?
Tirzepatide activates two hormone receptors (GLP-1 and GIP). This suppresses appetite, slows stomach emptying and improves blood sugar regulation. Because of this dual action, the average weight loss in studies is greater than with single-acting GLP-1 medicines. The dose is increased gradually.
What are the side effects of Mounjaro?
As with other GLP-1 medicines, gastrointestinal complaints are the most common:
- Nausea, vomiting
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Reduced appetite, abdominal pain
- Fatigue, headache
Rarer serious risks such as pancreatitis are possible. Read the patient leaflet and discuss it with your doctor.
What does Mounjaro cost per month?
The price of Mounjaro depends heavily on your dose and the provider — there is no fixed price. The dose is built up gradually from 2.5 mg up to a maximum of 15 mg, and the higher the dose, the higher the monthly price. That is why almost every clinic shows a from price (lowest dose) that rises towards the highest dose.
- Indicative monthly prices range from around €269 (2.5 mg) to €800 (15 mg), depending on the provider.
- The programme length matters: a longer bundle (3, 6 or 12 months) is often cheaper per month.
- Check whether the price includes medical guidance (all-in) or whether guidance is billed separately.
Example of a dose scale (renewal price per month, indicative):
| Dose | Price per month |
|---|---|
| 2.5 mg | from ± €269–335 |

| 7.5 mg | ± €449–595 |
| 10 mg | ± €449–645 |
| 12.5 mg | ± €549–670 |
| 15 mg | ± €549–800 |
