Using Mounjaro: KwikPen, dosing & injecting
You use Mounjaro as a weekly subcutaneous injection. It comes as a pre-filled pen (including the KwikPen) and as a ready-to-use single-dose pen. You inject into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm and rotate the site; the dose is built up step by step from 2.5 to a maximum of 15 mg. Below is the practical guidance — always follow the patient leaflet and your doctor/pharmacy. This is general information, not dosing advice.
Using the KwikPen
The Mounjaro KwikPen is a multi-dose pen: each week you set the prescribed dose according to the patient leaflet. Your doctor or pharmacy will explain how to prepare the pen, set the dose and inject. There are also ready-to-use pens with a single fixed dose. Follow the instructions that belong to your pen.
How many doses are in it?
A Mounjaro KwikPen is designed for a fixed number of weekly doses (usually four). Do not try to get an 'extra' or fifth dose out of a pen: a leftover amount cannot be dosed reliably and that is unsafe. Use the pen as the patient leaflet prescribes and dispose of it afterwards.
Where and how do you inject?
You inject Mounjaro just under the skin in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, on a fixed day each week, each time at a different site. The general technique is at how injecting works.
Building up the dose (2.5 → 15 mg)
Mounjaro starts at 2.5 mg/week (an introductory dose) and is increased by 2.5 mg every ~4 weeks up to a maximum of 15 mg, to limit side effects. The doctor determines the build-up and the maintenance dose. See dosing & titration.
Storage and a missed dose
Store unused pens in the refrigerator (2–8 °C), not in the freezer; once in use, a limited storage period applies according to the patient leaflet. Missed a dose? Do not take a double dose; the patient leaflet describes what to do, so consult it or your pharmacy.
